Frequently Asked Questions
Can you tell me a little about the history of vitamin infusions? How has the practice developed since the Myers infusion?
The LIFE infusion, more commonly known as the ‘Myers' Infusion, is the administration of nutrients by intravenous delivery. It was originally developed in the 1970s by Dr. John Myers, MD, a physician from Baltimore, Maryland, who pioneered the use of intravenous (IV) vitamins and minerals as part of the overall treatment of various medical problems.
After Dr. Myers died in 1984, some of his patients were seeking nutrient injections from him. Some of them had been receiving the treatments monthly, weekly, or biweekly, in some cases for over 25 years. Chronic problems such as fatigue, depression, chest pain, or palpitations were subdued well by the treatments; however, the problems would occur again if the patients went too long without them.
Research has shown that it was not clear exactly what the ‘Myers’ cocktail’ was composed of, as the patients couldn’t give complete details, and there wasn’t any written evidence. However, most of the experts say that the main ingredients were magnesium, calcium gluconate, thiamine, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, vitamin B complex, vitamin C, and dilute in sodium chloride.
Nowadays, the drip is not designed to cure a specific disease, but to help treat a broad spectrum of health conditions and to aid your nutritional and immune status. We strongly believe in infusions for long-term well-being and beauty from the inside as well as the outside.
The Elixir Clinic has used the Myers’s formula as a basis for our infusions and after many years of research by us and other specialists, we have developed our own highly effective, natural and safe formulas. By adding elements such as proteins, essential fatty acids and more vitamins and minerals we can achieve immune boosts, weight loss, energy surge and glowing skin. The infusions are also an antixiodant detox method for anti-ageing, and fight symptoms like depression, mood swings, irritability, menopause and much more.
Why do we need to take vitamin supplements at all - can we not get everything we need from our diet and lifestyle?
Everyone knows that the human body needs nutrients and vitamins to function properly. However, it is less well known that even normal people with no medical conditions do not absorb the correct amount of these nutrients and vitamins from food. We all have natural deficiencies or various lifestyle reasons why this is the case, for example not spending enough time in the sun. Over the last 40 years vitamin infusions have been designed to deliver the optimum balance of these nutrients and vitamins directly to your body, bypassing the gastrointestinal system.
Even stress, drinking, sunbathing, pollution, and radiation in our modern urban lives causes oxidation and produces ‘free radicals’ which has the potential to cause irreversible damage to cellular DNA. We need antioxidants now more than ever to remove the ‘free radicals’ from our bodies. This is what the term ‘detox’ means, it reduces the signs of ageing and prevents from degenerative diseases.
What are the benefits of vitamin infusions versus oral/liquid supplements? Do you have any statistics or results on the benefits?
The key benefit to intravenous administration over using supplements or creams is that your body can only absorb from 0-10% of what is contained in pills or creams. The rest is simply wasted. With intravenous infusions, not only is absorbtion 100%, but rather than being superficial, it is more effective for long-term well-being.
In addition, these nutrients, vitamins and amino acids can be safely delivered in high doses because they bypass your gastrointestinal system which often is a cause of stomach aches and unnecessary problems when delivering essential substances to your body. Bypassing the gastrointestinal system also has the benefit of achieving serum concentrations not obtainable with oral, or even intramuscular (IM), administration.
We never say one method of administration is better than the other, because it depends on the circumstance. Part of our service is to do a full consultation with each of our clients before having the infusions, and through their medical history and their wishes, we advise to have one or another.
What sort of range of patients do you see?
We see patients of all ages. We see the same number of men vs women, and lots of them live busy urban lives. We also treat lots of celebrities, VIPs and professional athletes. We see lots of people who want to improve their physical and psychological health. Overall, our clients are all interested in holistic health and well-being.
How have most found out about the treatment, and what is the most common complaint you hear?
Our service spreads through word-of-mouth. Having an infusion has a direct, visible impact on physical appearance (e.g. glowing skin) and energy levels as well as being safe and effective for the long-term. Our clients see real, immediate value, which they want to share with those in their social circles. We like to focus on building deep, trusting relationships with our clients that go beyond just delivering treatments, and we are always happy to talk to your friends about their well-being and how we can help.
The most common complaint is: when taking the infusion very late in the afternoon, you could be over-energetic, and our clients sometimes find they have difficulties falling asleep that night.
What is the most popular treatment you offer?
The VIP Elixir Infusion is our most popular treatment. This is a custom blend of all the infusions we provide, tailored to your needs.
What sort of results do patients report seeing, and how generally how quickly is this?
The results will depend on the infusion that you choose. However, the most common results are: boosts in immunity, energy, hair growth, glowing and luminous skin, and weight loss when combined with exercise. You will also experience a reduction in swing moods, stress levels, irritability, water retention, and ageing symptoms in general. Some of the effects start from the moment you are having the infusion up to the following morning. Some effects like hair growth or removing dark marks from your skin can take from a few days up to a few months.
What is the recommended course of treatment?
Everyone is different, so we include a full, free consultation for every client. However, we generally recommend new clients to have a course of six infusions, and subsequently a top-up once a month. It depends of your availability, your personal needs and your specific condition.
Can you tell me a little about the intramuscular treatments?
If you don’t have time for a 45 minute drip, or you are looking for another way to receive your vitamins, you could also do it through IM. The absorption is about 80%, and each injection is for a specific purpose, for example: an energy boost, or a libido enhancement, or hair and nails growth.
How do you see the treatment developing – will it remain a luxury treatment or could it be likely to become more commonly administered?
We think the same thing that is happening in the US will happen in the UK, and infusions will become more and more accessible to people who want the best and safest possible treatments for long-term well-being.
